Drumroll please...

The venue!

As you know from my previous post, the venue was the FIRST thing we booked, even before the ring happened. But we knew it was gonna happen, and we knew when we wanted it to happen... so since our venue books quick we wanted to get on it.

Before I let you in on where it is exactly we are getting married let me tell you our criteria:

(1) in our budget and (2) ocean related

For those of you who haven't researched into these types of weddings 1 and 2 don't really go well together. But we got two, and ended up spending a little more on our location then we planned.

There were "perks" that made us think it was a little more reasonable... it includes a lot. With the price we get all of our vendors included... if we don't want to use one of their vendors we got credited so much money back (unfortunately the credits weren't as much as how much a vendor always would be). I'll go more into the perks in a minute... let me introduce to you our fabulous, four story.... yacht weddingYes, it may look like three but you can actually go out on the fourth level which is the roof which is covered in cocktail tables where you can enjoy the fabulous view of the Newport Harbor and Marina. Our yacht is called the Eternity and is part of Electra Cruises in Newport Beach.
You are greeted as you walk through the sliding doors with strawberries and champagne where you will be escorted to the third level where a breathtaking ceremony will take place. Once the ceremony is over you are taken down to the first level where you have dinner before heading to the second level (you followin'?) that has a very lounge nightclub feel... there are lounge couches everywhere and a big dance floor where all of the fun takes place! There is a full bar on the first and second level as well.
Unfortunately, it only comes with four hours and to pay for an extra hour was just DEFINATELY not in our budget. So we are settling for four hours, taking photos on the beach before the wedding, and cutting out a cocktail hour so we can go straight from ceremony to dinner followed by the dancing!
The yacht leaves the dock immedietely once everyone boards and cruises around the harbor up until 15 minutes before the conclusion of the wedding.
I'm so excited to have this gorgeous venue, I think it's so different then the norm, yet is so us.

The Tripple P

Ok, I'm not the only one right? Every girl starts looking at wedding ideas before she has the ring... right? No crickets there I'm sure... but I'm also sure you all didn't go as far as I did (although the groom was included on some).

Let's put it this way, I had the BIGGEST things out of the way before I had a ring on my finger.

In the beginning of January we stepped foot in a jewelery store and that's when the talks began... next thing you know another week later we are driving around looking at places that we could see ourselves getting married at... oops, did I just call a location and ask to check out the venue? Oh you need a deposit? Ok fine. Yup, we had our venue booked four months before the ring was on my finger.

Not only that I had researched vendors for all aspects of my wedding I had most of them lined up as well before there was a ring on my finger. Florist had a deposit about a month before the ring, and the photographer I was only waiting to book because I was hoping to see if I won a contest... more on that later I promise.

Did anyone else have vendors booked before he put a ring on it? Even things as large as the location?

Not sure why the pix are turning out so big, even when I scale them down in the post they are posting big so they are getting a bit cut off. I will try to fix that... in the meantime let's get postin.

The Proposal

I don't know about you ladies (and maybe a gent or two?) but I DONT like waking up early on my Saturday... at least not at 8:00 am by a test message from the boy until I read what it says:
CLUE #1: Ahead of you is a treasure hunt! Drive to the home where I now dwell... where on the front door you shall see... an unusual envelope waiting for thee!

Ok, so let me backtrack quickly. We have gone ring shopping and already started planning a wedding, so you can't tell a girl that has been waiting patiently for six, yes six months, that there is a treasure hunt ahead of her if there isn't going to be a ring at the end of this. So of course I wake up super excited and get ready more then I usually would for not having an actual plan for the day. I convinced myself OVER AND OVER that I wasn't getting proposed to because I know how disappointed I would have been... but nonetheless I was hopin' for it so I'm off to the 3 minute drive to his casa and this is the first thing I see. *getting giddy*

CLUE #2 - "Behind this door lies a journey through the past! Enter the place where I lay my head, there awaits a special moment on the bed."

CLUE #3 - Across the hall you should seek, another memory just waiting for a peek!

Note: Chilis is where we first met.

CLUE #4 - Now walk into the kitch and try to find, one of the favorite treats of mine!

Also note: Boomers was the nite of our first date as well :)

CLUE #5 - Now giddy on up to another room, to find something Country waiting for you!

Oh wait, another note: So was the Hat :) Mmm Chili Fries!

Now pass through the sliding glass door as you remember these treasured memories, I plan on making so many more. Let's play a rousing game of Mexican Train..."

With each of the clues there was a great poem or story that he told with tons of sweet things just didn't want to type up all of that.

Making a longer story a bit shorter I go outside where him and the fam pop out for some Mexican Train. I still think this is odd but just don't think the proposal is going to be happening yet. Next thing you know I'm dumping out a box of dominoes only to pour out tons of dominoes including a ring box in the middle... this is where ugly cry face begins.

I didn't open the box, I didn't do anything, I just started to cry. I was seriously the happiest I had ever been and didn't know what to do. Brad said some great things and I couldn't tell you one of them and I even was one of the girls that forgot to say yes. Of course I did and his dad popped out the camera to catch some great pix as well.

Startin to make the calls...

Later on in the evening when we got home, I think I was emotionally exhausted!

On our way to Newport Beach where he took me to lunch and I did a Build a Bear to remember our day of our engagement... of course it was a Panda :)

UP NEXT: Pre Proposal Planning

The Meet

As I sit in the halls of the dark Cal Poly Business building I sit on my sidekick, messing around on Facebook and My Space while waiting for my class to start... as I sit there talking with a boy in my class (that recently took me on a late nite date to Friday's) I get a pop up message on my Sidekick saying "New Message".

Ooo, nobody writes messages on Facebook... everything be done on the wall!

Brad Lastname? I don't know a Brad Lastname! This guy apparently found me via a friend of a friend that we had "mutual" connections with... we talked and chatted via Facebook for a few weeks before making the plunge to actually meet.

We decided to meet at a local Chilis and from there we went to "The Hat" (if you are from Southern Cali you know what I'm talking about, if you're not YOU'RE MISSIN OUT!) After talking for a couple of hours there finding out how many mutual people we know as well as having so much in common we head out to a game of mini-golf which he did NOT let me win.

It was seriously such a casual first date that I wouldn't have any other way, I had a blast and knew I had a real connection with this guy... since this was a last minute middle of the week date plan we planned to hit up the annual local rodeo together... and after that I knew this guy had to be mine!

Our first photo together at the San Dimas Rodeo

That was two years ago, up next: The Proposal.
